Sommelier Frances von Aesch and Restaurant Chef Austin Lu invite you to join them in Aura for Tasting Tuesdays.

We’ll open three unique wines from our wine list and pair them with the perfect bite.

Here’s what we’ll be pouring for the next three weeks;

Tuesday September 29

Semillon was originally used as a blending grape in France, but the New World has made this grape its own.  We’re opening three exciting examples from Australia, Washington State and B.C. Taste the Brokenwood Wines Semillon from the Hunter Valley in Australia next to the L’Ecole No 41 Semillon from the Walla Walla Valley in Washington State.  Finishing the flight will be the Lock and Worth Winery Semillon from Kelowna B.C. These winemakers create distinctive wines reflecting their natural winemaking practices.

Tuesday October 6

A trip to the Old Country is up next with a trio of Spanish wines all made from the Monastrell grape.  First up is Castillo de Jumilla Rose from Bodega Bleda region made in a perfect style, light crisp & dry. The second is a medium bodied spicy Al-Muvedre from Telmo Rodriguez.  He’s a natural winemaker whose mission is to revive traditional Spanish grapes such as Monastrell. The final wine takes it up a notch of intensity – the Bodegas Volver Tarima Hill Old Vines, 2015.  Tapas anyone?

Tuesday October 13

Let’s mellow out after Thanksgiving with a trio of wines from the Malbec grape.  The first is the Moon Curser Vineyards Malbec from the Tolley family who make outstanding wines from atypical grapes near Oliver B.C.  Next we’ll pour a Malbec from Bodega Catena Zapata High Mountain Vineyards in Argentina.  Their vines are planted on mountainous slopes at very high elevations in order to take advantage of the cooler temperatures and drainage.  This results in a refined and elegant wine.  To complete the flight we’ll pour the Domaine de Cause Malbec from Cahors in France where the grape originates.  The wines there are big, dense and inky black – an interesting contrast to the other two.

Tasting Tuesday $25 includes the flight, (Three – 3oz pours) and a bite.

The flight and a bite will be available from 3:30-9pm and are amazing accompaniments to our small plates menu.  And since the wines will be flowing, you’ll be able to enjoy any of the wines featured on the flights by the glass. Stop by, or make a reservation as seating is limited. See you soon!
