Well, 2020 is drawing to a close and, I don’t know how everyone else has fared, but I think it’s fair to say that the vast majority of people haven’t been their best selves this year. Here at Aura, we’ve been in a constant state of unusual circumstances, completing a renovation (yay!), launching our new small plates restaurant & menu (double yay!) and then closing for 3 months for a global pandemic (triple ya- wait…, what?). It’s been a year, alright.
What has become clear recently is that it’s the simple things in life that hold the most joy, and for me that is brunch! Why, you ask? Well, it’s an odd relationship that I have with brunch, but one thing is for sure- when a change is as good as a break, brunch is the escape that I need. Eating both breakfasty and lunchy things at a time that may or may not be usual for either of those meal periods? Yes! Having a nice americano or espresso AND a glass of bubble at the same time? Why am I not doing that already? Having a nap in the afternoon because of how I spent my earlier day? Well, now I’ve technically split the day in two and it became a long weekend! Brilliant!
And really, when we launched our small plates menus in Aura brunch was what I, personally, was most excited about (well, that and 3, 6 and 9oz wine pours). You get to choose a bunch of items the same way you would at a buffet, but you don’t have to stand in line and it all comes to you. Wave after wave of incredible food and flavours and there’s no post-order remorse of committing to a single dish and wondering if you really should have ordered the other dish you were looking at. Have both! They are the perfect size! It’s indulgence without guilt, it’s relaxing and taking yourself out of a routine, soaking up a gorgeous view, and hopefully spending time with fantastic company. We’re pretty nice, but we can only get you so far on that last point. And with 2020 being the year that it has been, I think it really deserves a good send-off, and we should start toasting it’s completion now.
